Housing Minister Maciu Nalumisa says they are still in discussion with Public Rental Board (PRB) general manager Timoci Naleba regarding a proposed levy by PRB to address the issue of housing for those in informal settlements.
Mr Nalumisa also says there has also not been any confirmation on whether a proposed levy on workers will be approved.
“Regarding PRB’s plan on how to tackle the issue of the high number of people living in informal settlements by proposing this levy, it is still in discussion,” said Mr Nalumisa.
“Nothing has been confirmed yet. We are just having discussions amongst agencies right now.”
He says government is also organising small community activities in different neighbourhoods to address the rising concern of drug use.
“Also, what we are trying right now is engage the communities in most of the activities in some areas like sporting facilities like multi-purpose courts and parks for children.
“These are the small things we are doing to engage communities so that issues like drugs can be addressed.”
